Scottish Artist Uses Toys To Recreate Star Wars

Jul 27, 2016

A Scottish artist won instant nerd fame after Comic Con 2016 declared him the winner of a photography contest for images recreating the epic battles in Star Wars using toy stormtroopers.

Stuart Robertson's photos require a double take even for the most die-hard wannabe Jedi Knights. The expertly captured images reveal stormtroopers in military-style battle formations, with the captions taking an occasional jab at their infamously poor firing abilities.

"'Perfect marksmanship bro!' - said no stormtrooper ever," one caption reads.

Robertson's Instagram is followed by over 14,000 users. His recent work was featured at this year's San Diego Comic Con.

Star Wars Toy Photographer Captures Stormtroopers Perfectly

The 43-year-old factory worker began his hobby using his son's Star Wars toys, according to an interview with BBC.

"I started out with my son's action figures, just to give him a giggle," he said. "I'd joined Instagram and found a community of toy photographers, which inspired me to try it myself. I got a positive response and a friend encouraged me to take shots outdoors."

While it's hard to imagine Robertson's children don't get a kick out of his suddenly successful hobby, the photographer says he normally does not take themĀ out for his shoots.

"I don't take them out when I'm taking photos. It takes a wee bit of time to set up each shot and it's kind of boring to watch," he continued. "They like seeing the finished scene though. James is my most valued critic."
